National Dance Day
A long-time proponent of healthy lifestyles, Congressman Elizabeth Norton, Washington, D.C., introduced the National Dance Day resolution to promote dance education and physical fitness across the United States. “More than 30 percent of Americans are obese and childhood obesity has tripled in the past 30 years,” said Norton. “Television shows such as So You Think You Can Dance are not only entertaining but are also encouraging people to live a physically active lifestyle. Holding a National Dance Day in the nation’s capital is a terrific way to promote fitness and fight obesity.”
National Dance Day is held on July 30, 2011. National Dance Day events will include local celebrations at Six Flags parks across the country. Three viral videos will be released with different levels of National Dance Day choreography, making it possible for people of all ages and dance backgrounds to celebrate.
